About the Journal
At-Tafakur: Journal of Sharīʿah and Legal Sciences (e-ISSN: 3089-1477) is a high-quality research journal dedicated to the advancement of scholarship in the fields of Islamic law and legal studies. The journal is published by the Islamic Family Law Study Programme, Department of Sharīʿah, Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Az-Zain Sampang, and serves as a platform for researchers, academics, and legal practitioners to disseminate research findings and progressive, reflective scholarship.
The journal is published biannually, in March and August, and aims to provide a reputable academic platform for the scholarly community and legal practitioners. At-Tafakur is committed to promoting and disseminating knowledge that contributes to the development of both the theory and practice of Islamic law and law in general. The focus and scope of the journal include legal studies, Islamic family law, Islamic criminal law, Islamic economic law, constitutional law, Islamic law and gender, Islamic law and society, as well as Islamic law and politics.
Current Issue
At-Tafakur: Journal of Sharia and Legal Studies Volume 2 Number 1 August 2025 presents critical and in-depth scholarly discussions on the development of Islamic law and its interaction with contemporary legal, social, and political contexts. This issue features articles on Islamic political thought, family law, Islamic criminal law, sharia-based economic practices, maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, as well as legal harmonization and disharmony within national legal systems. Contributions come from scholars affiliated with various Indonesian universities and international academics, particularly from Jordan, offering comparative and global perspectives. This edition aims to serve as an authoritative academic reference in advancing studies of Islamic law and jurisprudence.
