About the Journal


At-Tafakur: Journal of Sharīʿah and Legal Sciences (e-ISSN: 3089-1477) is a high-quality research journal dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in the fields of Islamic law and legal studies. The journal is published by the Islamic Family Law Study Programme, Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Az-Zain Sampang, and serves as an academic forum for researchers, lecturers, and legal practitioners to disseminate research findings and progressive, reflective scholarship.

The journal is published biannually, in March and August, and aims to provide a reputable scholarly platform for the academic community and legal practitioners. At-Tafakur is committed to promoting and disseminating knowledge that contributes to the development of both the theory and practice of Islamic law as well as law in general.

Focus and Scope

At-Tafakur: Journal of Sharīʿah and Legal Sciences focuses on the publication of empirical research, as well as normative and conceptual studies, and reflective scholarship that makes a significant contribution to the development of legal and Sharīʿah studies.

Scope of the Journal

Legal Studies: Examining various aspects of legal theory and practice in general.
Islamic Family Law (fiqh al-munākaḥāt): Analysing family law from an Islamic perspective, including marriage, divorce, inheritance, and related issues.

  • Islamic Criminal Law (fiqh al-jināyāt): Discussing the principles and application of criminal law within the framework of Sharīʿah.

  • Islamic Economic Law (fiqh al-muʿāmalāt): Investigating legal regulations governing economic activities from a Sharīʿah perspective, including Islamic banking, Islamic insurance, and Sharīʿah-compliant business contracts.

  • Constitutional and State Law (fiqh al-siyāsah): Exploring the relationship between Islamic law, constitutional law, and state governance in contemporary contexts.

  • Islamic Law and Gender: Examining gender-related issues in Islamic law, including women’s rights and gender equality from a Sharīʿah perspective.

  • Islamic Law and Society: Analysing the interaction between Islamic law and society, as well as its influence on social life.

  • Islamic Law and Politics: Investigating the relationship between Islamic law and politics and its implications for public policy and governance.
